Ther Year of the Tulip.

It's not that we haven't planted tulips every other year..no usually at least a pot of red ones...

..and then we remember how much we love them and promise ourselves that we'll buy more next year...

... we discovered Sarah Raven's catalogues..oh my what wonderful tulips she offered...though not cheap!

The other problem we always find .....is the timing for planting them up...too soon and they could rot if the weather is too warm or too wet...so you leave them in the package...until suddenly it's December and you notice that the tulips are still out in the back porch in their paper bag.

You dig some deep holes or search around for empty clay pots and hope that you can still get a big bag of bulb compost in the supermarkets!
This year...we grabbed a dozen bags of tulips from Aldi or Llidl...we had decided to economize.
They have been wonderful!

...and peach with a stripe.

Poem...Gathering Bones

ipad drawing of bones at Largy

I’m gathering bones together
On the studio floor.
Crouching down and
Staring at an  assemblage.
Here a nest of bones as
Pale as shadows
On the polished wood.
There a craze of broken glass with
Distorted reflections.
I’m Alice.
Walking through a splintered world
Bridging the actual and
The probable.
 I’m pacing the room and
Glancing back at a vanitas. I
hear the sound of my own wretched bones
And weep at coming death.

... after reading Gregory Orr’s poem…."Gathering the bones together".

I'm involved with an email post called
LITERARY COMFORT FOODS
It's such a good link with people who inspire me in so many different ways and with the lockin holding fast the internet is such a blessing.
*
This poem was sent and received and a grand kind critique along with it also.
*
I've plucked up enough techie courage to send it to 20 others.
Poets, artists, musicians.
My only mistake...as dad used to say...was not reading the instructions carefully.
20 women.
I put 3 men it there!!
Ooops
I think they deserve to be there!

We made our now annual expedition to The Aldeburgh Poetry Festival this weekend just gone. It's held mainly in the village of Snape at The Snape Maltings...very apt for the potter and wife!
Our association with this part of Suffolk goes back to the years of the teenage children. But the festival..only the last three years. The potter has some ceramics in the Gallery there and also in The Buckenham Gallery in Southwold ...so there's a double reason to take the six hour trip from here in the north west to East Anglia. And a further reason as the oldest grandgirl is now at UEA  in her second year and getting more political by the moment!!
But the festival was just great this year. I love the different approaches. The "academic"...the "comedic"...the "ex-punk"...the "rock-star"...the "rap poet"....and the madness of the open-mike late night session!!
Each year I've made the effort to get to as many sessions as I have energy....and these poets are a sample of those I heard speak this time.
Attila The Stockbroker, Gerry Loose, Kei Miller, Helen Mort, Jeremy Reed, Valerie Rouzeau, Pedro Serrano, Susan Wicks, Jane Duran, Peter Sansom and Jeni Smith.
From the workshops to the Q&A sessions the talks and the readings, it's a feast of words and emotions.
Now I will have to have a go at putting it all into practice....
I plucked up enough courage to have a go at the open mike session in The Plough and Sail at Snape on the Saturday evening.....this was my contribution!

...hands shaking by the time I had finished!!...
