A Poem for Thursday... Ulysseian Wonderings.

Ulysseian Wonderings.

The fire spits and crackles

Gently.

And the wind

Mouths melodies

Over the tallest stacks.

A conversation of intimacy.

Slow steady breathing from

The sleeping potter.

And I become acquainted

With Stephen Dedalus.

Strutting his stuff

Cocky as a wagtail

On the streets of “Dirty Dublin”.

I have heard the puffins are struggling to rear their young this year due to the long hard winter and a lack of the little fish that they feed on.....

...however these two came out of the kiln a couple of days ago looking exceedingly well feed!!

A Poem for Thursday...Red Lipstick

Red Lipstick

Every day  Putting on  bright red lipstick

Smiling a scarlet smile Blood

Red As red

As blood

Seeping through

The broken heart  Smile that

Covers Heart

Break

That covers fear

That  Fools  the face That

Smiles back

Smile

Signifying

“All  is  well”

Covering  the  unsaid.

This was written in response to the micro-essays by Jan Hudfield in Poetry Review Spring 2013.

And today is dVerse open link night 95 so I'm hoping to catch it in the pub before the doors close!!
and the mag is up as well and looks good this week

( The pic has been edited by me but I'm not sure who it was taken by...if I did I would give them credit.....!)

A Poem for Thursday....The Irish Giants

 The Irish Giants

There Shaw, there Synge,

There Yeats, there Wilde.

These were the writings

I read as a child.

These are the writings

Of the sons of Kathleen.

She bore them she raised them

She gave them their names.

And Joyce who was Jim

With the family in hock,

Socializing in Bewleys’

While the Dubliners mocked.

Socializing in Bewleys’

Over coffee and cake.

There Shaw, there Wilde,

There Synge, there Yeats.

Today it's the time for dVerse meeting the bar..."tell us about your voice"....mine is a Northern Irish voice steeped in poetry from an early age ...with the beat and the rhyme of the Irish voice ...I hope that you can spot it!!

Weekend at the Bay...that's Morecambe!

What a contrast a day makes ...could be a good song in that...change the words a bit...make it more poetic...

...well Saturday was bright and ...yes...windy...but sunny... and what an evening sky...

This pic is from Dave Brown of Wainwright Wanderings...a fantastic photography site .
...well worth a viewing..
...I was in the house in front of a cozy fire and snuggled up in a blanket...well I said it was windy and the wind was cold.

The potter packed the car this morning ready to set off for Prom Art....
...we got to the front and looked at the Bay...
...and turned round and went straight back to the house! Unpacked the car again...sat and thought about things...and then went out to Red Bank for a coffee and toasted tea cake each....you have to be positive in this weather!!

So on the way back from the cafe...I made the potter stop a few times to take these.

Call them "elemental!...I like elemental actually...just glad of a home to go to and dry out afterward!

Lots of eager fishermen out at the Bare end of the Prom...no pun intended!!

...not bare at all in fact...very well covered up against the howling wind!

...this "craw"...viewed the outlook ...

and a lone fisherman got down in amongst the rocks....

...I'm facing into the wind and rain here and one walker braves it on the west prom......
....quite jolly actually ...he gave me a friendly wave...

...then along comes a mad cyclist head into the storm and pedalling like crazy ...
...going nowhere!

...it was like this...

...but you know it can be like this too...
...if it wants to!

Prom Art at Grange over Sands....Sunday.

Another year gone and April has come around so quickly.
Prom art on Sunday.....such a great place to see northern English artists and crafts folk.
We will be there ...unless the rains start again.
I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new aquaintances.
The potter has rather less to show this month due to the winter blip!!
But we go and set up and watch the world go by...especially the dog walkers!!
It's a time to dream as well as the view is stunning.

The car is packed and bulging at the seams...

I've been food shopping to stock up for a picnic...just to make a special day of it.

I'll let you know how it goes!!

Kirby Lonsdale day out.

The sun shone and the sweet spring air gave us back a hope after a hard winter....
...in Kirby Lonsdale...

.... the new bridge over the Lune river...

......the old bridge...

 ...held together...stone and iron...

...saturdays and sundays are for cyclists' gatherings...

...close by, the cricket field gets a makeover for the new season...

...and dogs and owners play by the riverside...

...freshly planted willow twigs protect the banks...

..while spring flowers clothe them...

...the trees begin to unfurl their leaves...

...and blossom blooms along the path...

...ancient walls bloom too with tiny ferns...

...and further up the rough meets the smooth where two streams join...

...in the old churchyard wild daffodils fill the space between the graves...
..and in this area Ruskin had his famous view...

...while ancient gargoyles gaze endlessly down on all.....

...and the churchyard cat snoozes in the sudden heat of an April day.
