A Poem for Thursday

This poem has had a spring clean....some editing!
It amazing what a month or two of lying low can do for words.

The arrogance of birds...
or ...
The jealousy of ground dwellers.

Here's what you get for having a tree in your garden.
You get magpies and crows, wood pigeons and robins,
Who perch on the very top branch in an April morning
When the mellowness of Spring mists are rising.
And they look down at the world around them
Feeling superior to us below at ground level.
And that's what you get for allowing a tree
To reach its ultimate height...... apart from the oxygen.

A Poem for Thursday....Beyond Silence (with many thanks to S. Heaney)

Is it the rhythm of the wheels on the motorway surface or the rapidly changing landscape that stimulates my mind so much when we take long road trips. The radio is on...sharply relaxed in the seat by the potter...watching out for fools on the road. They love roads do fools...learnt that by my father's side as he taught me to drive in my teenage years.

Beyond Silence
Something beautiful happened
On our way down the M6
England's main blood line.
A great flock of starlings
and a murmuration! While
Snow spat down on us and
The wind struck hard as iron.
Leaving us with only
A holy heavy silence.

A Poem for Thursday...Come let me see...

Come
let me see the poetry
in my life.
The rhythm and the rhyme.
The pauses
and the notes to hold.
The runs to run.
The metre
and the line.
Show me how often
to sing a chorus.
Break into harmony
Add another voice
here
and there.

Let the middle of the song
be love.

But don't promise
what you can't give.
No Grimm stories
from the brothers.
Tell Christian
that I've heard them all.
I'd rather be with the clowns.
They sing my song.
The song of
the holy fool.
