A Poem For Thursday

Revelation Day

This morning
In particular.
This morning…
After the afternoon
Even before the evening
And this morning…
My feelings
Are too powerful to ignore.
Stirred up are feelings
Long time hidden
Under plastic washable
Keep it clean-ness.
Today they are revealed.

I remember soldiers
In blue cotton suits
Limping
Up the hill...
Up to the red brick hospital.
To the building that dare not speak it’s name
Too much to think of

Too much to answer to.
I remember soldiers
White-faced
Empty-eyed.
Gazing out of steamed up bus windows
Making their way
Back
To some safety.
Back up the hill.
Making me nervous.
Watching me
The child watching.
The child feeling
Fear that oozed from every glance.
Fear that hit me
As it had hit them…
That tried to envelope me
That caused me to run
To avoid that
Which I would never know.
Strong emotions
In a culture
Hidden
Under
Beneath
Inside and away.
Away  away.
Revelation can take a life time.
Today is revelation day.

We went to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester yesterday to see an adaptation of Virginia Woolf's book "Orlando". I find that theatre often releases long gone memories in me...and so it was with this.
The poem has really nothing at all to do with the story of Orlando but somehow this is what came tumbling out today.

I'm linking in with DeVerse today....I think that the poem fits the bill......thankyou Brian for the prompt!

A poem for Thursday...The Mag 154

What a great prompt...living as we do a few miles down the M62 from the Library. Thankyou to The Mag for that .
This poem was published quite a while ago...but fits this bill...so I hope you will forgive the repeat!!

In the beginning
There was
Walter de la Mare,
Robert Louis Stevenson
And
A.A. Milne

Rose Fyleman was there too
With
The Oxford Book of English Verse.

And there was a train
In the beginning,
Made out of chairs
Placed in a row.
And children,
Lots of children
Laughing,
As the words got faster.

In the beginning
Words made sense,
And sensibilities were easy to understand.
And that was in the beginning
When words floated around in the air,
And sometimes
Ended up inside my head.

And it was easy
To join them up
One to one
And twos to threes.
And often they joined up so fast
That they tumbled over one another
In joy.

And that was just the beginning.

so I'm linking up with
The Mag 154 today and looking forward to reading the work that comes up inspired by the Wonderful Library
in the middle of Manchester.

"Lady Heyes"

We went off on a spin yesterday afternoon....
....the we here being Christine McC. and myself.
Across the Manchester ship canal and off up into the Cheshire hills behind the little town of Frodsham....
First stop, after depositing the car in the car park.......Christine's car....thankyou!!
..is usually a cup of coffee and some cream cake.
Then we are fit and ready to do the serious business of  looking, necessary for ...

The Lady Heyes  Antique and Collectable Centre...

If you are in any way interested in "stuff".... this is the place for you!
Did I mention that I very grandly offered to buy the coffee and cake?...
...well I'd left my purse at home in the kitchen !....tut tut...

...baubles bangles and beads...

...buttons in a button box...

...lovingly crocheted rugs for ancient knees...

...never be without a good butter knife...

...lace and furbelows...( don't really know what furbelows are ...anyone out there help?)

...no place can call itself furnished without Donald Duck...

...books books books...and look at those super titles ...and didn't they do a good job with the book covers in those days...I love them...I buy just for the front illustration...

 ...tins and things...

 ...tartan rugs and silk throws...

...I get lost in the maze of rooms...

...we had one of these in the garage when I was a kid and I loved rummaging in it to find old paintings and documents...obviously not important or they wouldn't have been in the garage!

....but the piece de resistance for me, was this wonderful old photo of a huntsman...
...I asked for permission to take a pic of it...the absolute essence of a portrait...I think.

...home again with Christine at the wheel....what fun!

...don't you just love good friends!
