A Poem for Thursday.

October 5th

I look up
Through the branch
of the cherry tree.
A spinner joins puzzle to puzzle.
Short days
Time of the essence.
Slow flies
The essence of time.

I look across
To the dome
of the elder tree.
A blue bird picks and jennies for grubs.
Love of the essence.
Slow bees
The essence of love.

  1. I don't know that word 'jennies' Gerry but love the poem - it has a nice dreamy quality.

  3. thankyou both so much for your kind comments. Sorry that I didn't get back any sooner but it has been a family weekend with children et al. Well John it really is encouraging of you to say so. I wouldn't know where to look for publishing. Although many years ago while in my 20s I was published by Chappel Music publishers during the time that I was singing.I became a member of P.R.S. also and still receive a small amount each year. But that was a long time ago.I'm always very thankful for the amazing training that I had from my teacher in speech and drama while living in Belfast. He was called Graeme Roberts and was quite amazing in the way that he gave us all a real love of words and rhythm.

  6. Dave, once again thankyou for your comment. i always find it so encouraging.
Jinksy, I'm so pleased that you liked the photo. The forest is one in co. Down N.I. and it's at the back of the little town where C.S.Lewis was born. I often wonder if the very start of his dreamings came from this magic place.

  7. Loved your poem, Gerry. Read and re-read it. Was thrilled also to read about the link with CS Lewis. Do you follow Rosie at Leaves n' Bloom, I wonder? She had an excellent Lewis post a while back ...

Rosie's blog isn't loading on to my screen at the moment ... a slow connection ... but you can reach it from my earlier link here.
